When it comes to designing landscaping for driveways, most people think that it's nothing but planting a row of trees or flowerbeds along the length of the driveway and call it "driveway landscaping". Planting flowerbeds along the length is just one of the ways to define a driveway from surrounding areas.
	Many times it is not appropriate to plant trees along the driveways. But which way to go for entirely depends upon where the driveway leads to and the purpose or the function of the driveway. Many times a driveway is a private road that leads to the internally placed building structure inside a campus. I such cases the driveway vehicular traffic is very low which leads to the building. One more important point to consider is that it not always necessary to use soft landscaping as a means to decorate the driveway. A combination of hard and soft landscape can create an excellent balance as well. This is specifically true if the driveways are for pedestrian movement. Pedestrian movement has a very slow speed of traveling (like walking), so a visual relief on the surrounding length of the driveway can create curiosity of what the user is going to experience into the deeper parts of the campus. Sometimes the driveways does not necessarily lead to the main entrance of the building. A good example would be public buildings such as hospitals. In such public buildings the driveway may first lead to visitors parking and various departments of the hospital building. In such type of designs driveway landscaping may also include use of visual elements such as signage for getting clarity of movement.
